Touch typing guide

Touch typing means typing without looking at the keys, using all fingers from a fixed home position. It is the foundation for high WPM and low fatigue.

Home row position

Place left fingers on A S D F and right fingers on J K L ;. The small bumps on F and J help you return by feel. Thumbs rest near the space bar.

Finger map (QWERTY)

  • • Left pinky: Q A Z and nearby left keys
  • • Left ring: W S X
  • • Left middle: E D C
  • • Left index: R T F G V B
  • • Right index: Y U H J N M
  • • Right middle: I K ,
  • • Right ring: O L .
  • • Right pinky: P ; / and shift/enter side keys

Other layouts (AZERTY, Inscript, Tamil99) use the same idea: stable home position + consistent finger ownership.
