How to type faster
Faster typing is not only “moving fingers quicker.” It is accurate muscle memory, stable rhythm, and deliberate practice. Use the steps below, then measure progress with a free test.
1. Switch to touch typing
Rest on the home row (ASDF / JKL;). Each finger owns a set of keys. Looking at the keyboard caps your ceiling; trust muscle memory instead. See the touch typing guide.
2. Accuracy before speed
Every error costs time (backspace) and net WPM. Slow down until you stay near 96–99% accuracy, then raise pace in small steps.
3. Short daily sessions
Fifteen focused minutes daily beats a two-hour session once a week. Consistency builds automatic finger paths.
4. Fix weak keys and digraphs
Most people lose speed on a handful of letter pairs. Drill those intentionally. Games like Raindrops or Sprint keep drills from feeling boring.
5. Measure the right metric
Track net WPM and accuracy together. Gross speed alone hides sloppy habits.
